Freshwater Aquarium Tropical Fish
Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

I’m starting a 29 gallon aquarium with my son for tropical freshwater fish. Should I use a larger filter?
I was thinking about a filter made for aquariums 55 gal. and higher along with an Air Pump or air rock. I want to add Bala sharks and tetras and maybe an angel fish or two. Would this be a good set up for a 29 gal tank?
I would not go with the fish that you are thinking about except for the tetras. Angel fish as well as bala’s can get pretty big. I would suggest something like a communtiry tank, you know, molies, guppies, swordtails, and so on. You would be able to keep several of these fish in a tank of this size.
Also, about the filter, I would agree with the first answer, if you want to over filter that is your choice however, keep in mind that the bigger the filter the stronger the current which means that there is a bigger chance of causing injury to your fish. I would suggest going with a filter that is for this size fish tank, also, most filter are ranged for a couple of different tank sizes.
